Main1 / 12ANTIQUE FRENCH ZINC ARCHITECTURAL FINIAL ATTRIBUTED TO PERIN FRÈRES, PARIS
SKU AGZINC.O1.38.7.5X2
Description
This elegant French zinc architectural finial was originally created as part of a distinguished Parisian building, where its soaring silhouette crowned a roofline with grace and refinement. Composed of hand-formed geometric transitions, a bulbous central form, and a slender spire reaching skyward, the piece embodies the restrained elegance of French architectural ornament during the Belle Époque. Unlike cast reproductions, each section of this finial was individually formed from architectural zinc, joined by hand, and finished by skilled craftsmen. More than a century of weather has softened the metal into a remarkable natural patina, revealing subtle variations in tone, oxidation, and texture that cannot be replicated today. Mounted on a custom hardwood display base with integrated museum-quality LED illumination, the finial has been thoughtfully transformed from a forgotten architectural fragment into a sculptural work of art. Gentle uplighting accentuates the changing profiles and layered construction while preserving every authentic detail of its historic surface. Equally at home in traditional interiors or contemporary collections, the piece stands as a striking reminder of an era when even the highest points of a building were crafted with extraordinary artistry. Collector's Note One of the most compelling aspects of this finial is the original Perin Frères manufacturer's plaque, still affixed to its base. Such surviving foundry marks are increasingly uncommon and provide a tangible connection to the Paris workshops that supplied ornamental zinc architecture throughout France during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The visible hand-soldered seams, evidence of traditional fabrication, and naturally weathered surface all remain intact, preserving the authenticity of the piece. Rather than restoring away its history, this architectural artifact has been respectfully presented as a museum-quality illuminated sculpture, allowing collectors to appreciate not only its elegant form but also the remarkable craftsmanship behind its creation.

Care & Maintenance
Zinc is an incredibly soft metal, and its distinctive patina has developed naturally over more than 100 years of exposure to the elements. Because of this aging process, the surface may have a slightly textured appearance. For routine care, simply dust with a soft, dry cloth or a Swiffer® duster. This is typically all that is needed to keep your piece looking its best. For more thorough cleaning, compressed air—either from a can or an air compressor equipped with an air nozzle—is an excellent way to remove dust and debris from the textured surface without disturbing the natural patina. Please Note: Variations in color, texture, and surface character are natural features of antique zinc and are part of what makes each piece truly one of a kind.
